  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Red gel food coloring
  • Blue gel food coloring
  • 1 cup powdered sugar (for coating)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs one at a time, then mix in vanilla extract.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; gradually mix into wet ingredients until just combined.
  4. Divide dough into three portions: leave one plain, color one red and the other blue using gel food coloring.
  5. Chill each portion for at least 1 hour covered with plastic wrap.
  6. Roll small amounts of each colored dough together into balls and coat in powdered sugar.
  7. Place on the prepared baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are set.
