  • 3/4 Cup white whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 Cup brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 6 Tablespoons cold butter
  • 1/2 Cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Cup chopped apple
  • 1 Cup confectioner's sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with a silicone mat.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together both flours, brown sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt.
  3. Cut in the cold butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together milk, egg, and vanilla extract; then add to the flour mixture and stir until just combined.
  5. Gently fold in chopped apples.
  6. Drop batter by 1/4 cupfuls onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 11-13 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Cool on a wire rack before glazing.
