- 2 cups freshly grated cheddar cheese
- 1 cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
- 3 pounds Russet or Yukon Gold potatoes
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Pepper (to taste)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and position the rack in the middle.
- Peel and slice the potatoes into 1/8-inch pieces using a sharp knife or mandoline slicer.
- In a small saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 30 seconds. Stir in heavy cream, salt, and pepper; warm until boiling.
- In a greased 9×13 baking dish, layer half of the potato slices, pour half of the cream mixture over them, and sprinkle with half of each cheese. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
- Cover with foil and bake for 40 minutes; then uncover and bake for an additional 25-35 minutes until potatoes are tender.
