- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 stick butter
- 7–8 maraschino cherries (halved)
- 1 large can of drained pineapple slices
- 4 oz unsweetened apple sauce
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup pineapple juice
- 3 eggs
- 1 box yellow cake mix
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the yellow cake mix, eggs, pineapple juice, vegetable oil, and apple sauce until smooth.
- Line two round cake pans with parchment paper and spray with baking spray.
- Melt butter in a pan over medium heat; add brown sugar and stir until bubbling. Pour evenly into the prepared pans.
- Arrange pineapple slices on top of the sugar mixture and place cherry halves in the center of each slice.
- Divide the batter between the pans and bake for 28-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool for a few minutes before inverting onto plates.
