  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup whole milk (warmed)
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp red food coloring
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened, for filling)
  • ¾ cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup mini chocolate chips (optional)
  • ½ cup unsalted butter (softened, for frosting)
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 24 tbsp milk (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, yeast, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In another bowl, mix warm milk, melted butter, egg, food coloring, and vanilla extract. Combine with dry ingredients.
  3. Gradually add remaining flour until you form a soft dough.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth (5-7 minutes). Let rise in an oiled bowl for about 1 hour.

  6. Roll out dough into a rectangle; spread filling evenly and roll tightly into a log. Slice into 12 pieces.
  7. Place rolls in a greased baking dish and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  8. Bake at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
  9. While baking, prepare frosting by beating cream cheese and butter until smooth; gradually add powdered sugar and milk to desired consistency.
  10. Frost rolls after baking and enjoy!
